Elin Johnston - Practice Statement & Bio

Working from her dedicated studio & workshop, Elin is an award-winning Visual Artist in practice since 2010.

Her work has been exhibited in London, Dublin, and throughout N.Ireland and has been acquired for the collections of the Arts Council NI, and Lisburn & Castlereagh City Council.

Her practice is inter-disciplinary in basis, working across a range of scale of mixed-media 3D Sculptural / Assemblage works, 2D Digital Imaging, Video, and is currently benefiting from an accelerated programme of diversification including augmented reality, moving image, and soundscape, aimed at larger scale installation collaborative outcomes.

Through her work she investigates aspects of collective and individual identity, memory, and place, examining such themes as the visual semantics of corporeal presence, interpretation of conditions of self, and making visible, site-specific resonances of elapsed shared industrial and social heritage.

Elin holds a BA(Hons) 3D Design and a MA (Industrial Design) and has extensive previous UK background as an independent Creative Director with projects implemented worldwide including Hong Kong, Tokyo, Melbourne, & Toronto. She also has considerable former experience in higher level Design Education, lecturing at a wide range of Art & Design Faculties in England and Wales.

Elin pursues an active involvement in arts engagement & development with professional, educational, & public audiences aimed at creating and enriching awareness, and appreciation of contemporary visual arts including 'Meet The Artist' talks & educational workshops.
